Their three Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo race cars exemplify their commitment to excellence and cutting-edge performance.

Blackthorn will leverage its engineering and strategic expertise, honed on racetracks worldwide, to ensure success in the E1 Series—showcasing their ability to adapt their motorsport skills to the challenges of electric powerboat racing.
As the Official Operating Partner, Blackthorn will take on a comprehensive role in managing Team Miami’s racing operations. Their responsibilities will include providing top-tier management personnel, including a dedicated team principal, a performance engineer, a data analyst, and skilled mechanics. The team’s leadership will include:
- Dan Jeal, Team Principal: With decades of engineering experience across Formula 1, WEC, and GT racing, Dan’s expertise in performance optimization and strategy development will be a cornerstone of Team Miami’s competitive edge.
- David McDonald, Co-Team Principal: A professional racing driver and coach, David has a proven track record in supporting high level motorsport teams and developing elite talent. His extensive experience includes partnerships with Ferrari, McLaren and Bentley.
- Josh Welsey, Engineer: Josh, as a key member of the E1 RaceBird development team, was responsible for the design, development and implementation of the Low Voltage Systems and software. He is also involved with McLaren’s Applied Control and Analytics portfolio, including ECUs and Software used in Formula 1.
- Paúl Gómez, Data Analyst: A specialist in data analysis, vehicle dynamics, and systems integration, Paúl brings advanced technical skills honed through roles with Aston Martin Racing and other elite motorsport teams.
- David Gillies, Mechanic: A seasoned technician with over 15 years of experience in endurance racing, Formula E, and touring cars, David’s knowledge of electric sport technology will be instrumental to the team’s success.
- Simon Darling, Mechanic: Known for his meticulous attention to detail and expertise across single-seater, prototype, and GT racing, Simon’s skills will ensure optimal performance in high pressure environments.

ABOUT UIM E1 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
E1 is the world’s first and only all-electric raceboat championship sanctioned by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), which is the international governing body for all powerboating activities. The UIM E1 World Championship was established to create a new, exciting and competitive on-water racing platform based on electric technologies to protect and restore our urban waters and coastal areas.
