E1 TEAM MIAMI – VENICE OVERVIEW

Miami, FL. (April 24, 2024) – After a successful week of testing at Lake Maggiore, Italy, E1 Team Miami arrived in Venice, Italy for the second round of the E1 World Championship prepared to test what the team learned and to fight for valuable championship points. Pilots Erik Stark and Anna Glennon reunited with Marc Anthony and the rest of the team in the legendary City of Water for an electrifying adventure.

Kicking off race weekend, Glennon lead the field of RaceBirds on a parade through the historic Grand Canal in Venice. The Team Miami RaceBird looked striking as she cruised the historic canal and waved to E1 fans – showing off the Bulova x Marc Anthony collection watch from Bulova, the team’s latest partner.

With the conclusion of the parade, the battle began with Qualifying. Between the two pilots and the experience of Victory Team, Stark came out swinging with a strong best qualifying session time. It came down to the wire as Glennon’s first two laps yielded a time of 1:33. In the new qualifying format, the two drivers best lap times are combined, and divided by two therefore she needed to pick up at least one second in her final qualifying lap. After a pause with the team, Glennon went out for one last lap and brought the crowd to their feet as she dropped the time from 1:33 to 1:26, nearly matching Stark’s pace in the previous session. The combined times brought E1 Team Miami to the top of pole position and secured another championship point.

Race day was a complete reset. The team started with Glennon in the boat for the first heat. She ran into difficulties on the start pitted against two of the fastest drivers on the grid from Team Rafa and Team Brazil. Despite a rocky start, she was still the fastest driver in the heat by 2 seconds. Stark went into the second heat cool and relaxed as usual and pulled off a stunning win after pulling away from the rest of the field. His win pushed the team into the final however, moments after celebrating, the rug was pulled out from under the team as a competing team received a penalty, shifting the points and pushing Team Miami into the last chance qualifier to fight for a spot in the final.

The last chance qualifier is the final opportunity to secure a position in the final where only the outright winner of the race moves on. Another rocky start left Glennon clawing for positions. Her aggressive push moved her through the field to second, but she couldn’t quite catch the leader.

Without a place in the final, Team Miami moved to the Place Race, which acts as a final chance to secure points for teams outside of the Final.

The alternating driver pattern put Stark in the boat for this event, and in typical “IceMan” fashion, he sling-shotted to the front of the pack after a slow start. Within the first two laps, Stark had opened a distance of over 20 seconds on first place, and flew the Team Miami Racebird to a smooth race win – much to the delight of Marc Anthony and the rest of the team watching on.

The place race win and the pole position maintained Team Miami’s second place position in the championship and distanced the team from 3rd place.

Despite a roller coaster of a weekend, a tough draw and penalties for other teams which impacted the standings, it was clear that pilots Stark and Glennon have incredible grit and pace and continue to improve each time they helm the Team Miami RaceBird. Whilst 5th place overall wasn’t the goal for the E1 Venice GP, the team still took away valuable learnings that they intend to use to continue to build the program and push the team forward. Stark and Glennon continue to win over fans around the world with their charisma and cohesive energy with the team. It was clear in Venice that Team Miami is a crowd favorite.

The team is already developing a strategy coming into the next round in Puerto Banus, Spain June 1-2, and will be kicking things off with a concert alongside Marc Anthony to celebrate.
